Steel King Employees Ring in the Holidays with The Salvation Army

Bundled up for the weather, a group of Steel King employees recently took shifts ringing the bell and encouraging people to drop donations into the iconic red kettle as part of the local efforts of The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. According to The Salvation Army of Portage County, last year the efforts of the Red Kettle Campaign helped raise 1/3 of their annual budget, enabling them to provide 15,000 nights of lodging, serve 27,000 meals and assist over 500 individuals with either food, clothing, or shelter.
2020 marked the fourth year that Steel King employees have participated in The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. It has become an annual tradition that really brings out the best in people, says Tracy Trybull, Dynamic Storage Sales Associate. In addition to good company and festive holiday music, many years there is also the additional factor of winter in Wisconsin that comes into play. “I don’t know what mother nature is going to do the days that I sign us up for, so we have rung in some really wild weather”, says Tracy. “We still chuckle about the time the wind and snow were blowing so bad that grocery carts were flying across the parking lot.”
While Tracy admits that was it a little harder to share a smile this year through a mask, the camaraderie among coworkers and generosity of donors remained the same. “When you see a young man employed by the store that is working his butt off corralling carts from the parking lot reach into his wallet and stuff some dollars into the bucket… that is heartwarming.”
